OUR FOCUS | Land use planning and sustainable development

Urban planning and economic development

  • Plan urban growth intelligently by first addressing complementary needs such as access to public services, education, recreation, culture, community services, and natural spaces to maintain quality of life despite population growth.

  • Create a Municipal Commercial Service Counter to support companies and entrepreneurs with a proactive, streamlined service that complements other economic partners.

  • Simplify regulations, clarify processes, and use advanced digital tools to improve customer service and help residents navigate the system more seamlessly.

  • Set ambitious social-mix goals, promoting gentle densification in mainly residential areas to diversify housing options and ensure dignified living for people of all ages and economic backgrounds.

  • Support and expand agriculture by working with partners (UPA, MAPAQ, agricultural incubators, etc.) to revitalize unused farmland and encourage innovative projects.

  • Make more waterfront spaces accessible to everyone, creating new means of enjoying the shoreline and our bodies of water to give citizens diverse ways of experiencing our lakes, rivers, and ecosystems.

Water and energy development

  • Accelerate work to optimize existing water and sewer infrastructure and plan for the development of new facilities to accommodate population growth.

  • Make the city more resilient and prevent the impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding by investing in innovative and diverse water management and retention projects (permeable surfaces, retention basins, green roofs and rain gardens, vegetated ditches and trenches, etc.).

  • Support residents in reducing residential and commercial water consumption through targeted programs and awareness of the true cost of this resource. At the same time, improve our understanding of how this consumption affects the recharge of surface waters (rivers, lakes) and groundwater (aquifers), and contribute to research to better understand and protect this vital resource.

  • Enhance the territory’s energy resilience by collaborating with Hydro-Québec to address existing issues and diversifying energy sources. Encourage the implementation of renewable energy (solar panels, geothermal) and equip municipal infrastructure with generators to ensure civil safety.

  •

Architectural heritage

  • Strengthen collective reflection on heritage building preservation, supporting owners in their efforts while setting an example with municipal properties.

  • Create a Heritage Trail showcasing Vaudreuil-Dorion’s identity and history, including homes of builders and prominent citizens such as Lionel Groulx, Félix Leclerc, Yvette Brind’Amour, Camille Laurin, Esther Blondin, and Paul Gérin-Lajoie, preserving this legacy for collective memory.
